Alloy 400 is a grade from a group of alloys called Monel. Monel is a nickel copper alloy that contains nickel the most and copper with other elements for improvisations in strength and corrosion resistance properties. The Monel 400 contains 63% nickel and 23% copper. It is formed by solid solution annealing and it cannot be heat treated after production. The alloy could be cold worked to harden it. Because of the composition and the making process, the alloy is very strong and is extremely resistant to sea water and steam even at high temperatures. These features make the alloy be used in components in boilers, heat exchangers and in sea water applications. It is also resistant to alkaline conditions and it could be used under reducing conditions; it is resistant to reducing agents. The Monel 400 UNS N04400 alloy has better ductility and it could be machined. The alloys thermal conductivity is useful in thermal applications like the heat exchangers. The alloy is designated by DIn 2.4360 and has good mechanical properties. The Monel 400 chemical composition includes carbon, manganese, sulfur, silicon and iron in addition to the main nickel and copper elements. The alloy is resistant to brackish waters even with rapid flows and excellent corrosion stress crack resistant in fresh water. It has a higher resistance to alkalis, good performance from cryogenic temperatures to high temperatures. The use cases and the demand of the alloy determine the Monel 400 price. We can offer you a full price list. The Monel 400 material contains less sulfur at 0.24% and high nickel at 63%. The specific composition brings most of the specific mechanical properties of the alloy. All the mentioned Monel 400 applications make use of these specific properties. The Monel 400 suppliers sell this alloy products for use in crude petroleum stills, gasoline and freshwater tanks, chemical equipment, marine engineering and many other applications.
