Monel 400 Pipe is a grade of Monel alloys. Monel is a superalloy made up of nickel. It also has the addition of other elements in specified quantities. The addition of copper makes the material resistant to most acids. The Alloy 400 Seamless Pipe is the most used form of the pipes because it has less surface roughness reducing the reacting capacity of the pipe material with the fluid inside and outside the pipes. These pipes are used in highly corrosive environments such as sea water and chemical plants. The fluids inside will affect the pipe as well the ones outside. The ASTM B725 UNS N04400 Welded Pipes are stronger due to the welded nature. The material allows welding with ease because of the less carbon content in it and as a result less carbide precipitation. The Monel 400 Seamless Pipes has high thermal conductivity as well.
Due to the special composition, making and raw materials, the Monel pipes are expensive. The ASTM B165 Monel 400 Hot Finished Pipes are used in applications where high temperature is involved. The heat transfer rate of the material is very high. The ASTM B725 UNS N04400 Monel Pipe is a standard that denominates the available diameters of the pipe and the schedules. The schedules here mostly correspond to the wall thickness in relation to the diameter. There are up to schedule 160 in this grade and the diameters vary from 1/8th of an inch and above. The UNS N04400 Monel 400 Welded Pipe is a good choice for chemical processing pipes and acid lines because of the high strength at the welded joints. The Alloy 400 Pipes are used only with special cases where other types of pipes could not be used as substitutes. The 2.4360 Monel 400 Hollow Pipes are therefore used only in a select application that cannot replace these pipes with something else.
