Inconel 625 Tube is considered as a high performance nickel chromium molybdenum alloy, its major strength lies in its temperature resistance, its strength and corrosion resistance. It is mostly consist 58% of nickel, rest chromium, molybdenum, niobium, iron tantalum, cobalt and traces of manganese, silicon, aluminium and titanium.

It is commonly known by the name Haynes 625, Nickelvac 625, Altemp 625, and Nicrofer 6020.

Exceptional material strength

The hardness and quality is not only based by nickel- chromium but also the role played by niobium and molybdenum that offers exceeding strength without precipitation hardening treatment. This super alloy tensile strength is 690 MPa, and its yield strength measures 275 MPa.

High Temperature resistance

With its melting point at 1300°C and thermal expansion coefficient to 1.28 X 10-5 1/K - at 20°C. It can resist a wide range of temperatures extremes from cryogenic to extremely high, at high temperature of oxidising agents, the titanium and niobium forms the oxide film on it. This protective layer increases the durability and strength drastically. 

Resistance towards corrosion

The exclusive composition makes it super resistant to rust substance. Hence this superalloy is the most efficient under high saline sea waters and more so in milder environments like fresh water bodies. So by its nickel-chromium matrix it is naturally protected, and to enhance its character further molybdenum takes care of pitting and corrosion. In sulphuric acid of 15% the material corrodes at a minimal rate of 0.188mm per year.

Friendly towards Fabricability

It is designed to give better weld ability, enhancing its resistance to cracking when exposed to strain due to temperature changes post wielding. It’s a supper choice as a super alloy for tubes piping and plant equipment that require wielding.

Processing and production

Alloy 625 Exhaust Tubing composition solely depends on the specification of material which could be a standard AMS 5666 or UNS N06625.

It contain Chromium 22% - Nickel 58% and Niobium 3.5%, hence heat process to alloy is necessary to increase material toughness.

The following treatments may be applied to Inconel 625 Tube: 

  • High solution annealing: This process requires immersion for at least an hour under 1095-1205°C. Later decreasing the temperature through an ambient air or cooling media, this process results into an alloy of superior creep resistance.
  • Low solution annealing: Is much similar to High solution annealing with a lower temperature of 925-1040°C this alloy carries a great tensile strength and ductile properties.
  • Stress Relief: The process takes immersion up to 4 hours at 900°C and later cooled in ambient air. It creates an integrity in cryogenic environments, with good strength and stress resistance.

For forging it is heated at the temperature range of 1010-1150°C, or a lower temperature may cause stiffness.
