Weathering steel also known by its brand name COR-TEN is used in building bridges because of its unique property which eliminated the work of painting. weathering steel goes through an oxidation process for 2 to 6 years and forms a patina (rust-like appearance) which acts as a coating against the atmosphere. The bridges built can last up to 120 years. Also, the construction process is quickly completed without the need for painting.
