
321 stainless steel pipe
AISI 321 stainless steel pipe is austenitic stainless steel it is similar to Grade 304 but the addition of titanium is at least five times the carbon content and provides good corrosion resistance. After exposure to temperatures in the chromium carbide precipitation range of 800 - 1500°F it provides excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion. It has higher creep and stress rupture properties than Grade 304 and 304L and it resists oxidation to 1500°F and it acquires good low temperature toughness. It cannot be hardened by heat treatment but only by cold working. It can be easily processed and welded by standard fabrication practices. 321 seamless pipe is useful for applications such as chemical processing, pharmaceutical production, food processing, aerospace, petroleum refining, etc. It exhibits good corrosion resistance as compared to 304 stainless steel. ASTM A312 TP321 can be readily formed and drawn, however high pressure are required and more springback is encountered than for ferritic stainless steel and carbon steel. It hardens quickly and may acquire annealing after severe forming.
SS 321H Seamless Pipe is procured form a solid steel i.e in sheet or bar form and is formed into a round solid shape which is known as “billets” which is then heated and formed over such as piercing rod to create a hollow pipe or shell. 321h stainless steel pipe is the higher carbon version of the alloy. It is developed to enhance creep resistance and for high strength at temperature above 1000°F. The presence of certain alloying elements can make it more difficult for ASME SA 312 321H ERW Pipe to form than other austentic stainless steel grades such as Grade 301, Grade 304 and Grade 305.
